Plaça Reial

Plaza Real (Plaça Reial in Catalan) is a very famous square of Barcelona located in the charming Barrio Gotico (Barri Gotic or Gothic Quarter). The plaza is very close to the lively and popular boulevard Las Ramblas. Plaza Real is a very charming place with tall palm trees, street lights and a big fountain right in the heart of the square. The beautiful street lamps were designed by a very young Antoni Gaudi, who is considered the major exponent of Catalan Modernism. The Plaza Real was built in the mid 19th century and it used to be an exclusive place for the Catalan upper middle-class. Nowadays the area is full of restaurants, bars and clubs (Jamboree, Pipa Club, etc.). Many of the bars have open air areas where people usually relax with a cold pint and delicious tapas españolas while enjoying the interesting views of the Plaza Real. |
